Melissa Lail, Volleyball

Melissa Lail was named the Mariners Female Athlete of the Month for November. The Maine Maritime Academy athletics staff selects the honorees that are recognized at the monthly gathering of the Mariner Club, sponsored by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Lail recorded 20 kills, 11 digs and two service aces for Maine Maritime Academy during the NAC Championship Tournament. The sophomore posted 14 kills in the semifinal match to propel the Mariners to the title game.

Benjamin Russell was named the Mariners Male Athlete of the Month of November. Russell ended the season as the leading scorer for the Mariners soccer team tallying six goals and three assists, helping to lead them to the NAC Semifinals.  Three of his goals were game winners.  None of his markers were bigger than his overtime goal in the Mariners NAC Quarterfinal upset of defending champions Thomas College. 

For his fine season he was selected to the NAC All-Conference Second team.  Russell has also done a terrific job in the classroom being selected to the Capital One/CoSIDA All-District Team First Team with a 3.95 GPA in Marine Systems Engineering.  This selection makes him eligible for to be considered as a COSIDA Academic All American.  He has also been active in the campus community serving as both a peer tutor and a member of the SAAC.
