Goodwin, a graduate of Deering High School in Portland, played guard and linebacker for three years for the Mariners (MMA was a three-year school until the middle 1960’s). He was captain of the 1960 team which won the Small College Conference championship and, up to that time, was the most successful ever with a 7-1 record. He went to play on to play for the Portland SeaHawks in the Atlantic Coast Professional Football League until an automobile accident injury ended his career.
