Raymond played offensive guard and linebacker on the 1961-64 football teams.  In 1963 he was named to the All-Maine second team.  In 1964 he was elected captain of the team, voted as the team’s Most Valuable player, and named to the All-Maine team.  One teammate said of him, “he was the best pulling guard and linebacker MMA had seen in many years. Another teammate called him “the best pure hitter I’ve ever seen”.
