2010 Inductees:

The Maine Maritime Academy and Mariner Athletics are proud to announce the induction of Emile “Bevo” Girard (Class of ‘64), Joseph “Joe” Moran (Class of ’64), and Adam St.John (Class of ’85) into the William J. Mottola Mariner Athletics Hall of Fame.

Girard and Moran are Portland natives who were high school rivals and became classmates, teammates, roommates, and lifelong friends at MMA.  Playing for Coach Davis Wiggins, both were four year starters, Girard at right guard and outside linebacker, and Moran at right tackle.  MMA’s record for those four years was 26-7.
Coaches and teammates considered Girard to be a very good player and praised him for his toughness.  He was named as an Honorable Mention member of the All-Maine Small College Football Team after his senior year.  After graduation he was named to the permanent team roster at the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Indiana.

Moran also received praise from coaches and teammates as a very good player who was an “unsung hero” and never received enough recognition for his play.  Moran was named MMA’s “Most Improved Player” after his sophomore season.

Old Town native St. John scored 1,405 points in only three seasons of play which still ranks second in the all-time Mariner men’s basketball record book.  During the 1984-85 he averaged 28.9 points per game leading the nation in NCAA Division III scoring.  Among his many accomplishments were: Northeast College Conference (NCC) All-Star - 1983, 1984, 1985; NCC MVP - 1985; Maine College All-Star - 1983, 1984, 1985; 2nd team All-Maine - 1985; All-Maine Collegiate Basketball Team - 1983, 1984, 1985; Honorable Mention All-American - 1985.  He still holds ten all-time Mariner records.

The 2010 William J. Mottola Mariner Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held during Homecoming festivities on Saturday, October 2 at 10:30 AM in the BIW Center on the MMA campus.
