Mariner Report: Week of October 9, 2017

Men’s Cross Country

The Mariners competed at the non-team scoring Colby College Invite this week. The Mariners return to action on Saturday at the State of Maine Championships hosted by Bowdoin College.

Last season at the State of Maine Championships the Mariners placed seventh, and were led by Spencer Boonstra who placed 64th overall.

Women’s Cross Country

The Mariners competed at the non-team scoring Colby College Invite this week. The Mariners return to action on Saturday at the State of Maine Championships hosted by Bowdoin College.

Last season at the State of Maine Championships the Mariners placed seventh, and were led by Jessica Faltings who placed 60th overall.

Football

The Mariners fell to MIT in NEWMAC action 51-6. The team hosts Coast Guard Academy on Saturday.

Historically, Coast Guard Academy holds a 9-5 all-time advantage over the Mariners in a rivalry that dates back to 1970. The Bears have won two-straight, and are 4-2 when playing in Castine.

Golf

Joey Moir (Bangor, Maine) led Maine Maritime in Thursday's Mariner Invitational. Moir finished second overall, leading the Mariners to a fourth place finish. On Sunday, the Mariners finished third at the Colby College Classic led by Chance Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine) and Chase Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine). The Mariners return to action on Sunday and Monday at the North Atlantic Conference Championship. 

Last season at the NAC Championship the Mariners finished fifth, led by Erich Klopfer (Palm Harbor, Fla.) who placed 11th overall.

Men’s Soccer

The Mariners fell to Bates College 2-0 on Tuesday night and will return to action on Monday at UMaine-Fort Kent, before traveling to Southern Maine on Wednesday and hosting St. Joseph's College of Maine on Sunday.

The Mariners hold a 32-21-2 all-time record over the Bengals, including an 11-9 record when playing in Fort Kent. Last season the Mariners fell to the Bengals 5-1 in Castine. 

The Huskies hold an 8-3-1 record over the Mariners, including a 3-0-1 record when hosting, in a rivalry that dates back to 1984. The two teams last met in 2014 when the Mariners defeated USM 1-0 in Bangor, Maine.

The Monks hold a narrow 9-8-3 advantage over the Mariners in a rivalry that dates back to 1990. When hosting the Mariners are 5-4-1 all-time against Saint Joseph’s. The two teams tied 0-0 in their last meeting in 2008.

Women’s Soccer

The Mariners fell to Husson on Saturday, 1-0. This week, Maine Maritime hosts UMaine-Presque Isle on Sunday for a non-conference game.

The Mariners hold a 14-9-2 all-time record over the Owls, including a 6-4-1 record when hosting. In the last five matchups, the Mariners are 4-0-1. Last season the Mariners picked up an impressive 8-0 victory over UMaine-Presque Isle, with two goals from both Makayla Lewis (Purcellville, Va.) and Autumn Acord (Richmond, Maine). Emily Wyman (Brockton, Mass.) Allison Boulier (Bangor, Maine), and Kelsea Anair (Dresden, Maine) also net goals. 

Volleyball

The Mariners fell to Southern Maine and the University of New England this week. Maine Maritime hosts UMaine-Presque Isle on Wednesday night for a non-conference match before hosting Green Mountain and Castleton this weekend.

The Mariners are 22-1 all-time against UMaine-Presque Isle, including a 3-0 win last season. 

The Mariners are 9-2 all-time against Green Mountain, including 3-0 victories in the last seven matchups.

The Mariners are 16-0 all-time against the Spartans, including a 3-0 win over Castleton last season.
