Bourassa, Brawn Honored by NFF
Two members of Maine Maritime Academy’s football team were named to the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame’s (NFF) 2012 Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career. Nicholas Bourassa and Christopher Brawn were recognized by the organization.

Mariners Select 2012 Captains; Announce Schedule
Members of the Maine Maritime Academy football team have elected their captains for the 2012 season. Senior linebacker, Joel Chadbourne, and senior defensive linemen Tyler Chamberlain, and Matt Hebert, were chosen by their peers to lead the squad.

New England Football Conference to Restructure
New England Football Conference Commissioner Sue Lauder has announced a restructuring of the Conference that will take place prior to the 2013 season. The NEFC, founded in 1965 by Bridgewater State College, Curry College, and Maine Maritime Academy, will function as an eight team league and will retain the NEFC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The realigned NEFC will consist of Curry College, Endicott College, Maine Maritime Academy, MIT, Nichols College, Salve Regina University, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and Western New England University.

Nine Mariners Named NEFC All-Academic
Nine members of Maine Maritime Academy’s football team were named to the New England Football Conference’s (NEFC) All-Academic Team when it was released on Thursday. To qualify for the team a player must have completed three semesters at the same institution with a cumulative of 3.0 or better grade point average based on a 4.0 scale.

Brawn Named Academic All-District
Maine Maritime Academy senior linebacker, Chris Brawn, was named to the Capital One/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) All-Academic District One First Team when it was announced on Friday. District One includes all of New England and New York State. All-District First Team selections advance to the Capital One Academic All-America ballot.

Four members of Maine Maritime Academy’s football team were named to the New England Football Conference (NEFC) All-Bogan Division Second Team. Senior running back, Nicholas Bourassa, junior linebackers Joel Chadbourne and Brock Lawrence, and sophomore defensive lineman, John Regis were honored.

Week 9 Notes
Today’s game marks the ninth meeting between Maine Maritime Academy and The United States Coast Guard Academy. The series is tied 4-4. Maine Maritime has won each of the past three meetings. Coast Guard’s last win in the series came on October 27, 2007, a 38-34 victory in New London.

Coast Guard Cruises Past Mariners
Sophomore running back Tyler Hames (Milford, Conn.) piled up 219 total yards and a score, while senior Jarrod Owens (Monroe, Ga.) passed for 334 yards and four touchdowns, then ran in another to lead Coast Guard Academy to a 52-15 win over Maine Maritime Academy. The New England Football Conference Bogan Division win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Bears (2-7, 2-5 Bogan), while bringing the Mariners (4-5, 2-5 Bogan) season to a close with a fourth consecutive loss.

Bears Blank Mariners
Justin Fuller (Berkley, Mass.) rushed for 143 yards and three touchdowns to lead Bridgewater State University to a 27-0 win over Maine Maritime Academy in New England Football Conference (NEFC) Bogan Division action on Saturday. The Bears (6-2, 4-2 Bogan) defense limited the Mariners (4-4, 2-4 Bogan) to 184 yards of offense in posting the first shutout of Maine Maritime since Coast Guard pulled the feat in a 3-0 win five years and one day ago.

The Buccaneers hold a 21-17 lead in the series, but the Mariners have taken the last seven meetings – tying the longest streak in the series. Mass. Senior linebacker Walter Butler registered seven total tackles, including a pair of sacks, and returned a fumble 48 yards for a touchdown for the Buccaneers.

Tailback Melikke Van Alstyne pounded out 251 yards and five touchdowns to lead Framingham State to a 42-14 New England Football Conference (NEFC) Bogan Division win at Maine Maritime Academy’s Ritchie Field on Saturday. The win ended the Rams (5-2, 4-0 Bogan) ten-game drought against the Mariners (4-2, 2-2 Bogan), and leaves Framingham in the division’s driver’s seat with an unblemished record.

Bourassa and Robertson Named Athletes of the Month
Senior football player, Nick Bourassa (Jay, Maine), and first-year volleyball player, Sydney Robertson (Barnstead, N.H.), have been named the Mariners of the Month. The Maine Maritime Academy athletics staff selects the honorees that are recognized at the monthly gathering of the Mariner Club, sponsored by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Mariners Cruise in Division Opener
Maine Maritime Academy exploded for 34 first half points en route to a 40-7 win over Fitchburg State in the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Bogan Division opener. The Mariners (3-0, 1-0) scored on each of their first five possessions, piling up 316 yards offense in the first half to the delight of the homecoming crowd. The early run on the scoreboard left the Falcons (1-3, 0-1) in a hole they could not escape.

Mariners Pegged to Top Bogan Division
The coaches of the New England Football Conference ‘s (NEFC) Bogan Division selected Maine Maritime Academy as the preseason favorites to advance to the NEFC title game. The Mariners picked up 58 points in the poll, finishing ahead of Framingham St. and Bridgewater St., which were neck and neck with 47 and 46 points, respectively.
