Mariners Fall To Castleton In Defensive Battle

Castine, ME - The Mariners from Maine Maritime fell to the Spartans from Castleton State College 49-44 in a North Atlantic Conference match-up on Saturday at Margaret Chase Smith Gymnasium. Mark Comstock (Rutland, VT) led the visitors with a game high 19 points to go along with a team high seven rebounds in the victory.

 

Both teams combined to shoot 30% from the floor and 19% from the three point line, but the Spartans went on a late 6-0 run to close out the game and secure the win. The Mariners trailed 43-41 with 5:40 left on the clock before Dom Drake hit a runner to tie the game at 43 with 5:31 remaining in the game. The Spartans put the clamps on the Mariner offense and never gave up another point while scoring six points of the own.

 

The Spartans received seven points from Mike Knight (Spring Valley, NY) and Matt Cooney (Washingtonville, NY) while Tyler Ackley (Scotia, NY) and David Cochrane (Virginia Beach, VA) each contributed four assists.

 

The Mariners were led by Shawn Dostie (Bowdoinham, ME) who scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Dom Drake (Brewer, ME) chipped in with 13 points and six assists.

 

The Mariners fall to 7-7 overall and 2-2 in the NAC while Castleton improves to 7-7 overall and 3-1 in the NAC.
