Johnson State closed out an otherwise close game with a six-minute, 13-2 run to hand Maine Maritime a 60-50 setback in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play Saturday afternoon. The Badgers’ (6-19, 6-12) Andy Bousono scored half of his 10 points in the stretch to complete Johnson State’s season sweep of the Mariners (2-22, 1-17 NAC).

Lyndon Rallies for Victory
Lyndon State scored the final seven points of the game to deal Maine Maritime a 76-73 setback in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Friday evening. The Hornets (6-18, 6-11 NAC) hit 7-of-8 free throws in the final 96 seconds to overcome a five-point deficit. The loss was the Mariners (2-21, 1-16 NAC) 16th in as many games.

Thomas Too Much for MMA
Franklin Salvador dropped 26 points to lead Thomas College to a 98-59 win over Maine Maritime Academy in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play Tuesday evening. Salvador was one of three Terriers (13-10, 10-7 NAC) to finish in double figures, completing the season sweep of the Mariners (2-20, 1-15), who have now dropped 15 consecutive contests.

The Eagles’ (4-14, 3-11) victory splits the season series with the Mariners (2-17, 1-12) with each team taking one on their opponents’ floor.

Will Hanley scored 20 points and hauled in seven rebounds to lead Bowdoin to a 72-44 win at Maine Maritime Academy Monday evening. The Polar Bears (5-2) opened the game on a 20-2 run and never looked back en route to their 12th consecutive victory over the Mariners (1-5).

Ball Delivers MMA’s First Win
Andy Ball’s second-chance layup just before the buzzer delivered Maine Maritime Academy its first win of the season, a 52-50 victory over Maine-Augusta. It was the Mariners (1-3) first victory of the 2011-2012 campaign.

Ryan Chambers scored 25 points to lead Regis (Mass.) to a 76-54 win over Maine Maritime Academy in the first round of the Regis Tipoff Tournament. The sophomore guard shot 9-of-14 on the night and hit 4-of-7 three-pointers to power the Pride’s (1-0) victory.

Owls Spoil Season Opener
Aaron Hutchins (E. Millinocket, Maine) 14 points, built on a foundation of four three pointers, led Maine-Presque Isle to a 45-32 win over Maine Maritime Academy in the season opener for both squads. The Owls (1-0) three-point shooting was critical in securing their first win on the Mariners (0-1) floor since January of 2007.

2011-2012 Men's Basketball Preview
When Maine Maritime Academy’s men’s basketball season gets underway, the Mariners will do so with a relatively young squad. Of the 11 players on the roster, six are freshmen. The young Mariners will look to improve on a 10-15 mark from a year ago, relying on a solid cadre of returning players, but can only do so with immediate help from the freshman class.
