A last second block by Johnson State secured a 71-70 win over Maine Maritime in a North Atlantic Conference men's basketball game Saturday. The Badgers improved to 9-16 overall, 7-11 NAC and they clinched the No. 7 seed in next week's conference playoffs. The Mariners season ended at 4-20, 3-15.

Lyndon State knocked off Maine Maritime 95-64 in a North Atlantic Conference men's basketball game Friday. The Hornets improved to 12-12 overall, 11-6 NAC while the Mariners dropped to 4-19, 3-14.

Holt Named MBCWA Rookie of the Week
Maine Maritime freshman Nick Holt (Ellsworth, Maine) was named Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association Rookie of the Week. Holt connected on 8 of 10 threes in a two game span last week. He averaged 15 points per game against Castleton and Green Mountain while shooting 69 percent ( 11 of 16) from the field.

Maine Maritime senior Ben Russell (Farmington, Maine) was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America/Capital One Academic Division III All-District I in men's basketball. District I consist of schools in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Andy Ball scored five, of his game-high 24 points, in overtime to help lift Maine Maritime Academy to a 66-58 win over Maine-Presque Isle Saturday. The win for Mariners avenged a 74-38 season-opening loss to the Owls and improved MMA to 3-5 overall. UMPI fell to 5-4.

Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball coach Chris Murphy has announced the captains for the 2012-2012 season. Seniors Ben Russell (Farmington, Maine), Andy Ball (Hermon, Maine) and Paul Campbell (Camden, Maine) have been selected to be the Mariners' leaders this season.
