WENHAM, Mass.— Maine Maritime dropped an 11-7 decision to Gordon in a non-conference men's lacrosse game Monday. The Scots improved to 1-3 while the Mariners fell to 0-3.
Mio Sison scored a game-high three goals and dished out a game-best four assists for the Scots and Sam Spellman added three goals. Houston Zemanski stopped nine shots to earn the win between the pipes for Gordon.
The Scots notched the first two tallies of the evening when Hecklemann and Evans converted Matt Dantona assists at 13:53 and 9:44, respectively, to give Gordon the 2-0 lead midway through the opening period. Guimond scored the Mariners' first of the day just eight seconds after Evans' goal, though, to keep the game within one. Sison then buried back-to-back goals in the final minutes to put the Scots up 4-1 at the end of the first.
After Spellman found the back of the net on an unassisted effort at 11:32 in the second, both teams went on to trade goals throughout the remainder of the period to make it a 7-4.
The Scots outscored MMA 4-2 in the third frame, the final goal of which came from Davis with just five seconds remaining to put Gordon up 11-6 heading into the final period.
The Mariners applied significant offensive pressure in the fourth by outshooting Gordon 14-1, only one of those attempts found the back of the net , a Houle from Guimond hookup, at 14:31.
The Mariners return to action March 16 at Southern Maine.
