JOHNSON, Vt. -- Maine Maritime won its second-straight game with a 19-9 win over Johnson State in a North Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse game Saturday. The Mariners improved to 2-6 overall, 2-1 NAC while the Badgers fell to 0-4, 0-3.
Nicholas Betti paced Maine Maritime with six goals and Alex Hermes added four. Nick Snelling netted three shots while Tom Houle, Bronson Guimond and Jason Smith each scored twice. Betti also had a game-high four assists, Houle dished out three helpers and Snelling two.
Alan Bickings led Johnson with three scores.
Andrew Neddo gave the Badgers an early 1-0 lead before Hermes and Guimond scored back-to-back to put the Mariners ahead 2-1 with 3:17 left in the opening quarter. JSC answered with consecutive scores from Bickings and Taner Cross to take a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Bickings made it 4-2 early in the second before a Houle score made it a one point game with 11:51 before the break. Hermes followed with three-straight scores, and Guimond one, to put Maine Maritime ahead 7-4 at halftime.
The Badgers opened the third with three consecutive scores to even the game at 7-7 with 7:53 left in the quarter. The Mariners responded with four unanswered goals to take the lead for good, 11-7. Betti and Snelling each had two scores in the run for MMA.
JSC got as close as three, 12-9, in the fourth before the Mariners closed out the game with seven straight goals. Betti and Smith highlighted the run with two scores each.
Erik Milles picked up the win for Maine Maritime with 10 saves while Johnson's Zach Jerome took the loss despite 12 saves.
The Mariners return to the field Sunday in a 12 p.m. NAC game at Lyndon State.
