FARMINGTON, Maine -- Maine Maritime knocked off Maine-Farmington 10-5 in a North Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse game Monday and clinched the No. 4 seed in the NAC playoffs. The Mariners improved to 5-8 overall, 5-3 NAC while the Beavers fell to 4-6, 4-4.
Maine Maritime will likely host the Beavers in Saturday's quarterfinals. Conference play concludes Wednesday.
Nicholas Betti paced MMA with three goals and two assists, Alex Hermes and A.J. Larrabee added two goals each while Nick Snelling, Evan Carrier and Cameron Wyman added one. Mike Foley paced UMF with three scores.
The Beavers struck first when Foley netted a shot three minutes in but the Mariners answered with scores by Larrabee, Hermes and Wyman to take a 4-1 lead after one. TC Peters and Foley scored the only goals of the second quarter to get UMF within one, 4-3, at halftime.
Betti's second goal early in the third started a 3-0 run for the Mariners, which included goals by Larrabee and Carrier, to put MMA ahead 7-3 with 5:46 left. Brandon Melville added a goal for the Beavers with 4:37 left.
A Hermes goal in the fourth gave MMA an 8-4 advantage, and after another Foley score for UMF, Snelling and Betti finished the contest with two-straight scores.
Oscar Adams picked up the win with five saves.
