CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime volleyball player, Melissa Lail (Elizabeth, Colo.), and men's soccer player, Benjamin Russell (Farmington, Maine), were named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Players of the Week in their respective sports.
The honor was the first of the year for both Lail and Russell.
Lail led the Mariners offense with 28 kills and eight service aces in a 2-1 week. She also recorded a pair of blocks and 34 digs as MMA piled up its 14th and 15th 3-0 sweeps of the season. The Mariners are 17-4 (3-1 NAC) on the season, and currently occupy second place in the NAC standings. MMA will face its local rival, Husson on Wednesday night in Bangor.
Russell scored in both of MMA's games this past weekend. He scored his second game-winning goal of the season at Green Mountain before netting the Mariners' only goal at Castleton in a 1-1 tie. MMA is 7-3-2 (4-2-1 NAC) and sits in third place in the league standings heading into the season's final week. The Mariners host Thomas College in NAC play this Wednesday evening.
