Brown Wraps Up France Trip
Maine Maritime Academy sailing coach, Tom Brown of Castine, Maine, recently wrapped up competition at French Olympic Sailing Week. The fourth stop on the ISAF Sailing World Cup series was a tune up for Brown, Paul Callahan and Bradley Johnson, who will represent the United States in the Sonar Class at this summer’s Paralympic Games.

Sailing Third at Priddy
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Maine Maritime’s sailors finished in third place among the nine teams competing at the New England Frosh Single Division Championships for the 68th Allan L. Priddy Trophy. The University of New Haven hosted the event. Saturday saw nine races competed in FJs under breezes ranging between eight and 18 knots. Blake Burgess skippered the MMA entry with Rinchen Harrison as crew.

Mariners 17th at New England Dinghy Championships
Maine Maritime finished in 17th place out of the 18 schools competing for the New England Dinghy Championship. Harvard edged Roger Williams for the championship.

Mariners 17th at Oberg Trophy
Maine Maritime finished in 17th place among the 18 schools competing for the Oberg Trophy at Boston University this weekend. Roger Williams University narrowly edged the hosts for the hardware. Max Fleischfresser and Winston Pfotenhauer represented Maine Maritime in the A Division. Ally Fuehrer and Alison Mitchell sailed in the B Division.

Maine Maritime is in 16th place among the 18 schools competing for the Oberg Trophy at Boston University. Six races were sailed in the A division on Saturday, while the B Division finished five. Sailing resumes on Sunday.

Burgess, Harrison Named Sailors of the Week
Maine Maritime Academy Blake Burgess '15 and Rinchen Harrison are NEISA'S Coed Sailors of the Week. Burgess and Harrison led the Mariners to victory at the New England Dinghy Tournament, dominating A-division. The duo averaged better than second, scoring just eighteen points over ten races. Maine Maritime's victory at the New England Dinghy Tournament qualifies them for the NEISA Coed Conference Championship next weekend at Harvard.

Mariners Capture Kruger Cup
Maine Maritime Academy won the Second Annual Kruger Cup at The United States Coast Guard Academy. The Mariners were in second place at the end of Saturday’s races, but finished the event with first place finishes in the final three races on Sunday to secure the victory.

Maine Maritime sits in first place in the field of 10 after two races at the New England Dinghy Tournament. The Mariners A Division entry, Blake Burgess and Rinchen Harrison, placed first and sixth on Saturday’s races, while the B Division duo of Chirstopher Hulse and Molly Howe placed seventh and second. Racing resumes on Sunday.

Mariners Tenth at Boston University
Maine Maritime’s sailors finished tenth amongst the 18 schools competing for the Boston University Trophy this weekend. The Mariners were in eighth place at the end of the day Saturday, but dropped a spot on Sunday. The host Terriers easily handled the fleet to claim their own cup.

Maine Maritime placed third at the United States Coast Guard Academy’s Clark Open this weekend. Skipper, John Joseph, and his crew Jake Newton, David Markley and Taylor Batton, represented the Mariners over 10 races in Colgate 26s. Tufts University won the event, followed by the USCGA.

Competing in FJs at Boston University’s Bridge Invitational - Central Series, Maine Maritime is in 12th place amongst the 18 teams competing. Salve Regina sits in first after six races in each division. Blake Burgess, the A skipper, with crew Rinchen Harrison, finished Saturday strong with a sixth and fourth place finishes. B skipper, Ben King, with crew Ali Mitchell, posted a pair of 14th place finishes to highlight their day.

Mariners Seventh at Harbor Cup
In spite of numerous setbacks, Cal Maritime successfully defended their 2011 Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup Intercollegiate Regatta. The Keelhaulers secured their second consecutive title in the West Coast's only intercollegiate big boat regatta, finishing five points ahead of 2010 winner USC, and 10 ahead of CSU Channel Islands. Cal Maritime, defending champions, holds the lead after the second day of racing of at the Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup. The Keelhaulers won three of four races on Saturday, and have now taken four of six overall, to build an eight-point lead over CSU Channel Islands, and nine over USC going into the final day. Maine Maritime sits in eighth place in the 10-team regatta.

Mariners Sailing Coach Qualifies for Third Paralympics
Maine Maritime Academy’s sailing coach, Tom Brown of Castine, Maine, qualified for the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, England. Brown is one of six sailors that earned spots on the U.S. Paralympic Sailing Team at Friday’s Rolex Miami Olympic Classes Regatta on Biscayne Bay.

USA/MMA Finishes 11th at Student World Cup
When the fourth and final day of racing wrapped up on Friday, France had captured the Student Yachting World Cup for the first time since 1998. The French entry, Euromed Arthur Loyd, defeated defending champion, Solent University of England for its fifth championship in the 31 years of the event.

After seeing the first two days of racing cancelled because of poor weather conditions, the 31st Student Yachting World Cup got underway on Tuesday. France’s representative, Euromed Arthur Loyd sits atop of the standings, while the United States entry, Maine Maritime Academy, is in fifth place after the first four races. There are 15 entries in the field.

Monday’s Races Cancelled
A second day of extreme winds forced race organizers to cancel the second day of competition at the 31st Student Yachting World Cup. Sunday’s races were also cancelled due to excessively high winds that made for unsafe competition conditions. Maine Maritime Academy, representing the United States, will look for favorable race conditions when the program gets underway on Tuesday.

Sailors Set to Represent United States in World Cup
Maine Maritime Academy will send eight Mariners to represent the United State at the 31st Student Yachting World Cup (SYWoC) off of the shores of La Trinite-Sur-Mer, France. Competition begins Friday, October 21, and concludes on Friday, October 28. The program features a night race, weather permitting.

Mariners Win World’s Largest College Regatta
Maine Maritime Academy topped the eight-boat J/109 fleet with a perfect score of three firsts to capture the Storm Trysail Foundation (STF) Regatta. The Mariners were leading the fourth race when it was abandoned. The finish proved that the school is at the top of its game and bodes well for the school’s participation in the Student Yachting World Cup in France later this month.

Sailing Coach Featured on Bill Green's Maine
Tom Brown of Castine has won silver and bronze medals in Paralympic sailing races. He is preparing for the American Olympic trials and hopes to earn a third trip to the games.
