Five Mariners Named to NAC All-Academic Team
Five members of Maine Maritime Academy’s two winter and two spring sports teams were recognized for their successes in the classroom by the North Atlantic Conference.

Softball's Keach Now Padding "Other" Resume
Maine Maritime softball captain, Sabrina Keach (Chesterville, Maine) will enter her senior season with a .393 career batting average, the best in school history. While she already boasts an impressive athletic resume, the rising senior is going to work on her professional resume for her life after graduation. The Marine Biology major is serving an internship at the North Coast Marine Mammal Center in Crescent City, California. She recently updated MarinerSports.org about her experiences.

Katrina Dagan Resigns Post
Maine Maritime Academy’s volleyball and softball coach, Katrina Dagan, has resigned her position. Dagan, who also serves as the Academy’s Senior Woman Administrator, will join the Adams’ School Staff as a Physical Education Teacher.

Mariners Trio Named All-NAC; Jackson Named Defensive POTY
Three members of Maine Maritime’s softball team were named to the All-North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Team when it was released on Thursday. Leah Jackson and Erica Taylor were named to the First Team, while Sabrina Keach was named to the Second Team. Jackson was also named the NAC Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Thomas Topples Maine Maritime in NAC Playoffs
The Thomas College softball team picked up a North Atlantic Conference Quarterfinal win Wednesday afternoon, defeating Maine Maritime 6-3. The Mariners’ (14-15) season comes to a close with the loss.

Mariners Sweep Farmington; Taylor Breaks Record
Maine Maritime swept Maine-Farmington in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) twinbill at Ritchie Field on Friday afternoon. The Mariners (14-14, 7-9 NAC) plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 1-1 deadlock and hung on for a 5-1 win in the opener. Erica Taylor (Mesquite, Texas) broke the Mariners’ single season home run record and tacked on one more for good measure to erase the Beavers’ (10-18, 6-8 NAC) early lead in the nightcap, a 7-5 Mariners’ win.

Husson Sweeps Maine Maritime
Husson University swept Maine Maritime in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader at Ritchie Field Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles (23-8, 11-1 NAC) rallied from a 5-0 deficit to take the opener 10-6 in extra innings, before pouncing on the Mariners (12-14, 5-9 NAC) early in the first for a 6-1 win in the nightcap. Becca McCarty (Skowhegan, Maine) took the decision in both contests.

Mariners Sweep; Taylor Ties Home Run Record
Maine Maritime swept Lyndon State in a Sunday, North Atlantic Conference (NAC) double header. The Mariners (12-12, 5-7 NAC) won the first game 7-1, then followed on with an 8-0 win over the Hornets (9-19, 1-9 NAC) in the nightcap. Erica Taylor belted her eighth home run of the season to tie teammate Leah Jackson’s record for long balls in a season.

Mariners Split Johnson St. Twinbill
Johnson State College took game one of a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader from visiting Maine Maritime Academy 8-3, but saw the visiting Mariners respond with a 13-5 (5 Innings) triumph in game two on Saturday at Minaert Field. Johnson now stands at 9-16-1, 3-4-1 NAC while MMA sits at 10-12, 3-7 NAC.

Thomas College thumped Maine Maritime in a pair of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) softball games Tuesday afternoon. The Terriers (8-17-1, 5-2-1 NAC) won the opener 15-3 before taking the nightcap from the Mariners (9-11, 2-6 NAC) 10-1.

Castleton swept Maine Maritime in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) double header at Ritchie Field Saturday afternoon. The Spartans (9-13, 5-1 NAC) knocked off the Mariners (9-9, 2-4 NAC) 11-0 in five innings in the opener, and then posted a pair in the seventh to take the nightcap 5-3.

Maine Maritime swept Green Mountain in a pair of mercy-rule shortened North Atlantic Conference (NAC) games Friday afternoon at Ritchie Field. Erica Taylor threw the second no-hitter in Maine Maritime history to win the opener 8-0. Abby Yeo struck out seven as the Mariners (9-7, 2-2 NAC) handed the Eagles (1-14, 0-4 NAC) a 10-1 setback in the nightcap.

Colby used late-inning runs to sweep Maine Maritime 4-3, 4-2 in softball at Ritchie Field Sunday afternoon. The Mules (4-10) broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the sixth to take the first game against the Mariners (7-5), and then posted a pair in the seventh in order to secure the nightcap.

Mariners Pound Fisher
Maine Maritime pounded Fisher for a combined 27 runs on 26 hits during a Sunday softball sweep. The Mariners (7-1) topped the Falcons (0-15) 10-2 in the opener, then tacked on a 17-1 drubbing in the nightcap. The Mariners staff held Fisher to a single hit in each game.

Sophomore Andi Flannery rapped out four hits and drove in four runs to lead Maine Maritime to a sweep of a non-league college softball doubleheader of Massachusetts Maritime by scores of 3-0 in the opener and 20-1 in the nightcap in games played Saturday afternoon at Alison Rollins Field.

Maine Maritime Academy split Saturday’s softball double-header with Newbury College. The Mariners (3-1) topped the Nighthawks (2-9) 7-6 in the opener. Newbury repaid the favor with an 8-5 win in the nightcap.

Mariners Sweep Season Opener; Jackson Sets Career Mark
Leah Jackson’s three-run, walk-off blast punctuated Maine Maritime’s softball sweep of Maine-Presque Isle at the U Maine Dome. Her third shot of the day, and second in the nightcap, made it 11-2 ending the game via mercy rule. It was the second mercy-rule shortened game of the afternoon. The Mariners (2-0) knocked off the Owls (0-2) 8-0 in the opener.

Maine Maritime Academy’s softball team was picked to finish in fifth place North Atlantic Conference (NAC) in 2012. The Mariners went 18-8 with an 11-3 mark in NAC play in 2011.
