Lady Mariners cruise to win in opening round of Peace College Tournament

 

Raleigh, NC - The Lady Mariners from Maine Maritime Academy beat Salem College 77-42 in the opening round of the Jackie Ammons Tournament hosted by Peace College on Friday night. MMA will play Peace on saturday in the championship game at 3pm.

 

Maine Maritime was led in the game by Samantha Goda (Eliot, ME), scoring 22 points and grabbing 12 rebounds while Alexis Bennett (Freedom, ME) contributed 12 points on 6-for-10 shooting.

 

The Lady Mariners played well early on and led at the half 42-18. Despite turning the ball over 27 times in the game MMA forced 38 turnovers and out rebounded Salem 51-36. MMA shot 45% from the floor while holding their opponent to 22% shooting. The Lady Mariner had 13 players score.

 

Kelsey Rector led Salem with 16 points in the game while Shamaz Denerson was the only other player in double figures with 10.
