Maine Maritime Academy first-year center, Bekah Campbell (Corinth, Maine), was named to the Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) All-Rookie Team when it was announced on Wednesday.

Mariners Set for Semis
For the second time in as many games, Maine Maritime will seek postseason redemption against a team that swept the Mariners in the regular season. Top-seeded Castleton will host Maine Maritime at 1:00 p.m. on Friday in the North Atlantic Conference Semifinals.

Mariners Hoping Third Time is Charm
Maine Maritime Academy’s women’s basketball team is hoping the third time will be the charm when they face New England College in the opening round of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) championship tournament on Tuesday. The fourth seeded Pilgrims (18-7, 11-7 NAC) topped the fifth-seeded Mariners (13-12, 10-8) in both meetings during the regular season.

Mariners Move Into NAC Semis
First-year center Bekah Campbell posted a season-high 20 points to lead Maine Maritime to a 54-45 win over New England College in the North Atlantic Conference Quarterfinals Tuesday evening. It was the Mariners (14-12) first victory over the Pilgrims (18-8), who swept the season series in their first year of NAC competition.

Sam Goda posted her ninth double-double of the season to lead Maine Maritime to a 64-56 win over Lyndon State in North Atlantic Conference play Friday evening. Goda was one of four Mariners (12-12, 9-8) to finish in double figures in completing the season sweep of the Hornets (9-15, 7-10 NAC).

Sam Goda led all scorers with 20 points as Maine Maritime toppled Thomas 80-47 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play Tuesday evening. The win snapped a two-game skid for the Mariners (11-12, 8-8 NAC), who have knocked off the Terriers (5-18, 5-12 NAC) in each of the last 18 meetings.

Maine Maritime’s Bekah Campbell scored seven points over the last five minutes to fend off Green Mountain College, 61-52, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Saturday afternoon. The Mariners (10-10, 7-6) led by as many as 21, but continued a streak of sloppy second halves, allowing the Eagles (2-17, 0-14) to get uncomfortably close down the stretch.

Mariners Outlast Husson
After trailing by as many as 12 points, Husson University got within a single possession twice in the closing minutes of a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women’s basketball matchup with Maine Maritime. The Eagles’ (9-8, 9-2 NAC) comeback bid fell short as the Mariners (9-8, 6-4 NAC) hung on for a 57-53, win Saturday afternoon. The Mariners’ victory snapped their two-game skid against the Eagles, and was the first home win over the Eagles since 2008.

Visiting Maine Maritime Academy received 51 points from seniors Sam Goda (Eliot, Maine/Marshwood) and Maggie Smith (Bath, Maine/Morse) to key a 71-54 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women’s basketball victory over Johnson State on Friday night at Carter Gymnasium. JSC now stands at 3-10, 1-6 NAC while the Mariners even their record at 6-6, 3-3 NAC.

Power Outage Halts Play
A power outage in Castine with 1:01 remaining in the first half led to North Atlantic Conference women’s basketball play between Maine-Farmington and Maine Maritime to be suspended during play. Maine Maritime was leading 27-22 approaching the end of the first half when the gym went dark. The teams have tentatively agreed to resume play in Castine on January 31st at 7:00 p.m.

New England College’s women pulled away late to secure a 53-38 North Atlantic Conference (NEC) victory Saturday evening. The Pilgrims (11-1, 5-1 NAC) dominated the final 10 minutes of play, outscoring the Mariners (5-6, 2-3 NAC) 20-9 to rebound from their first setback in league play.

Sam Goda (Eliot, Maine) needed five points to become the seventh woman at Maine Maritime Academy to score 1,000 points in her career. The Mariners’ senior dumped in 27 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead Maine Maritime (5-5, 2-2) to a 68-59 win over Colby-Sawyer, handing the Chargers (8-3, 4-1) their first setback in North Atlantic Conference play in the process.

Maine Maritime and Tufts advanced to the finals of the Fifth Annual Mariner Classic, hosted by Maine Maritime Academy. The Mariners defeated Salve Regina 52-41 in the first semifinal, while Tufts handed familiar foe, Middlebury, a 78-36 defeat.

Mariners Lend a Hand at the Holidays
Maine Maritime Academy’s women’s basketball, softball and volleyball teams worked together to make the holidays special for boys and girls affiliated with the Emmaus Homeless Shelter in Ellsworth. The teams along wither their respective coaches, Craig and Katrina Dagan, and Director of Athletics, Eric Sabean, all residents of Castine, partnered to provide multiple presents for 11 children between the ages 1 and 12.

Amy Fahey scored 28 points and hauled in 13 rebounds to lead Fitchburg State to an 80-68 win over Maine Maritime in the Curry College Tipoff Tournament Championship Final on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons (3-0) sophomore clicked on 12-of-16 shots from the floor and four of five at the stripe to hand the Mariners (2-1) their first setback this season.

2011-2012 Women's Basketball Preview
Maine Maritime Academy head coach, Craig Dagan is pleased with his team’s prospects for the 2011-2012 season. Coming off of a 17-10 season, the Mariners are loaded with experience and leadership. Now they have their sights set on the squad’s first North Atlantic Conference championship since 2005.
