FARMINGTON, Maine -- Emma Morrison (Saco, Maine) scored nine points in the final 2:04 to lead the University of Maine at Farmington to a 49-45 comeback win over Maine Maritime Academy in North Atlantic Conference women's basketball action this afternoon at Dearborn Gymnasium.

Morrison finished with 13 points, all in the second half, and five steals in the win, which featured the Beavers fighting back from a 10-point deficit. UMF chipped the lead down to 38-37 with 4:38 remaining in the game. After a Casey McCloskey (Howland, Maine) layup made it 40-37, the Beavers stormed on a 9-0 run -- highlighted by a Morrison steal-and-layup and three -- to take a 46-40 lead with 44 seconds left. The Beavers were able to scratch out enough from the charity stripe down the stretch to seal the 49-45 win.

Kenni Norton (Strong, Maine) came through with 12 points in the victory, while Paige Saunders (Surry, Maine) scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds. The Beavers only shot 29.3 percent (17-58) from the floor, while MMA made 34.7 (17-49), but the Mariners made 25 turnovers.

Courtney Dufour (Augusta, Maine) scored 13 points to lead Maine Maritime with Sam Goda (Eliot, Maine) adding 10 points and eight boards. Leah Jackson (Dedham, Maine) pulled down 11 rebounds and made five assists and Bekah Campbell (Corinth, Maine) snared 10 boards in the loss.

Dufour buried a pair of threes to score eight points and the Mariners shot 43.5 percent (10-23) in the half, but were undermined by miscues (14). The two teams struggled through the opening half with the Mariners outscoring UMF 11-5 over the final 7:07 of the period for a 24-17 lead at intermission.

MMA staked a 29-19 lead on a Goda jumper with 16:41 remaining in the second half. Trailing 35-25, the Beavers scored the game's next seven points with a pair of Morrison foul shots making it 35-32 with 8:11 to play.

The Mariners weathered a three-and-a-half-minute scoreless stretch to maintain a lead with 40-37 advantage with 2:41 to play. After a Saunders basket, Morrison made a midcourt theft and finished with a layup for a 41-40 edge for the Beavers with 2:02 remaining. After another MMA turnover, Morrison buried a 3-pointer to make it 44-40 with 1:26 to go in the contest.

The two teams exchanged free throws over the final 44 seconds with UMF knocking down five of eight, including four for four from Morrison, to finish off the 49-45 win.

The Beavers improved to 5-10 overall and 4-5 in the NAC. UMF is scheduled to travel to Green Mountain College Friday (women at 5:30 p.m., men to follow). The Mariners dropped to 8-7 (5-4) with Bowdoin College on tap at home Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
