Five Mariners Named All-Academic
Five members of Maine Maritime Academy’s fall sports teams were recognized for their successes in the classroom. Jeremy Bullard (Manhattan, Kan.) of the men’s cross country team, Kari Jones (Nobleboro, Maine) of the women’s soccer team, Jenna King (Old Town, Maine) and Kayley Rodriguez (Quincy, Ill.) of the volleyball team, and Benjamin Russell (Farmington, Maine) of the men’s soccer team were named to the North Atlantic Conference All-Academic Team.

Colby-Saywer Ends Title Streak at Four
The Colby-Sawyer College women’s volleyball team won its first ever North Atlantic Conference (NAC) title, defeating four-time defending champion Maine Maritime 3-0 Saturday afternoon. The Chargers earned the sweep by scores of 27-25, 25-18, and 25-15.

Volleyball Advances to NAC Title Tilt
The Maine Maritime Academy women’s volleyball team advanced to the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) championship match for the fifth straight season after a 3-0 sweep over the Univ. of Maine at Farmington, on Friday evening in semifinal action. The Mariners won by scores of 25-16, 25-13, and 25-14.

Three Mariners All-Conference; Robertson Rookie of the Year
Four Maine Maritime volleyball players were recognized when the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) released its All-Conference Team on Tuesday evening. Chelsea Ward was named to the All-NAC First Team, while Jennifer Dixon and Melissa Lail were named to the Second Team. Sydney Robertson was named the NAC Rookie of the Year.

Seniors Lead Mariners Landmark Win
Maine Maritime Academy’s volleyball team posted its 40th consecutive home victory with a 3-0 sweep of Maine-Machias on Wednesday evening. In addition to being the 40th straight win at Smith Gymnasium, the victory bumped the team’s record to 22-4, matching the program mark for wins in a season, previously reached by the 2009 edition of the Mariners.

Mariners Top Mules
Chelsea Ward turned in 19 kills to lead Maine Maritime to a 3-1 win over Colby at Smith Gymnasium Tuesday evening. The win was the Mariners (21-4) first victory over the Mules (10-13) in the six meetings between the schools. Set scores were 25-17, 25-20, 17-25, 25-22.

Mariners Sweep NAC Pair
Maine Maritime earned its 19th and 20th wins of the season Saturday with 3-0 sweeps over Lyndon State and Johnson State. The wins delivered Maine Maritime its second 20-win season in three years and its 16th and 17th sweeps of the 2011 campaign.

Mariners Ground Eagles
Chelsea Ward posted 17 kills, a dozen digs, and three blocks to lead Maine Maritime Academy to a 3-1, North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win over Husson Wednesday evening. It was the Mariners (18-4, 4-1 NAC) eighth consecutive victory over the Eagles (14-13, 4-1 NAC) and 13th in the last 15 matches.

Maine Maritime Academy split a pair of non-conference volleyball matches at the University of New England on Saturday. The Mariners dealt a 3-0 loss to the University of Southern Maine before being swept 3-0 by the University of New England.

Melissa Lail recorded 14 kills, 17 digs and four aces to lead Maine Maritime Academy to a 3-0 sweep of Saint Joseph’s (Maine) Thursday evening. The Mariners (16-3) edged the Monks (13-7) in three tight games, 25-22, 28-26, 28-26.

Mariners Sweep NAC Matches
Maine Maritime Academy and Husson University both swept Castleton State and Green Mountain in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Volleyball quadrangular. The Mariners improved to 14-2 (-0 NAC) with its 12th and 13th 3-0 sweeps of the season, while Husson upped its mark to 14-3 (2-0 NAC). Castleton slipped to 0-12 (0-2 NAC), and Green Mountain dropped to 3-8 (0-2 NAC).

Bourassa and Robertson Named Athletes of the Month
Senior football player, Nick Bourassa (Jay, Maine), and first-year volleyball player, Sydney Robertson (Barnstead, N.H.), have been named the Mariners of the Month. The Maine Maritime Academy athletics staff selects the honorees that are recognized at the monthly gathering of the Mariner Club, sponsored by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Bowdoin Halts Mariners Streak, Stretches Own
Bowdoin College handed Maine Maritime a 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-12) setback in volleyball Tuesday evening, ending the Mariners’ (12-2) winning streak at five matches. The Polar Bears (11-1) extended their own winning streak to 10 matches in the process.

With the full-throat of the Midshipmen Under Guidance behind them, Maine Maritime Academy roared to a 3-0 sweep of Maine-Fort Kent in volleyball Friday night, setting the tone for Homecoming Weekend in Castine. The sweep was the 11th of the season for the Mariners (12-1), who piled up 17 aces at the Bengals' (3-4) expense.

Volleyball Wraps 2-1 Weekend
Maine Maritime Academy’s volleyball team went 2-1 at the Colby Invitational this weekend. The Mariners (6-1) defeated Maine-Farmington 3-0 Friday evening, then followed on with a 3-0 win over Gordon on Saturday morning. Colby, the first team to take a set from MMA this season, gave the Mariners a dose of their own medicine with a 3-0 sweep for a perfect run through their own tourney.

Robertson Named NAC Rookie of the Week
Maine Maritime Academy middle hitter, Sydney Robertson was named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Rookie of the Week on Monday. The first-year out of Barnstead, N.H. recorded 29 kills over a dozen games, served up seven aces and turned in three blocks for the Mariners during her first weekend of collegiate volleyball.

Mariners Wrap Up Perfect Weekend
Maine Maritime Academy remained unblemished on the young season with a pair of 3-0 sweeps on Saturday. The Mariners toppled Lesley University 25-15, 25-18, 25-17, before knocking off Maine-Presque Isle for the third time in as many matches, 25-11, 25-13, 25-9. MMA got through the weekend without dropping a single game.

MMA Picked for Fifth-Straight Volleyball Title
Maine Maritime Academy has been chosen the preseason favorite to win its fifth-straight NAC women's volleyball title in a vote conducted by the league's head coaches. The Mariners earned three first-place votes. MMA returns virtually everyone from last season's championship squad, which went a perfect 6-0 in conference play, dropping just one set all season.
