Mariners Sweep NAC Pair

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. —  Maine Maritime earned its 19th and 20th wins of the season Saturday with 3-0 sweeps over Lyndon State and Johnson State. The wins delivered Maine Maritime its second 20-win season in three years and its 16th and 17th sweeps of the 2011 campaign.

The Mariners (20-4, 6-1) defeated Lyndon 25-3, 25-11, 25-9, before knocking off Johnson 25-11, 25-11, 25-4. 

Melissa Lail (Elizabeth, Colo.) led Maine Maritime's win over Johnson with a match-high 13 kills. Jennifer Dixon (Ellicott City, Md.) had an impressive 28 assists and five service aces in the match. Sydney Robertson (Barnstead, N.H.) also added nine kills in the Mariner's attack.

Molly Grover, who collected three kills to lead the Badgres, while Kylie Van Etten had four assists. Jessica Pafumi also collect eight digs in the match for Johnson (3-14, 1-5).

Robertson had eight kills to lead Maine Maritime past Johnson. Chelsea Ward (Homer, Alaska) added seven and the tandem of Chantal Adderley (Nassau, Bahamas) and Lail had six each. Dixon had 21 assists and six service aces in the match, while Ward and Adderley chipped in five aces each.

Kayla Cormier, Maegan Fried and Morgan Diltz had two kills each for the Hornets while Jaclyn Brett and Taylor Young handed out three assists each. Joy Piper had two blocks for Lyndon, who ends its regular season with a record of 6-14 overall and 3-4 in league play.

The Mariners return to action Tuesday night against Colby. The Mules account for one of the Mariners four losses this season.
