Mariners Take Two from UMPI

CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime won a pair of straight-set matches against Maine-Presque Isle in non-conference women's volleyball action Saturday. The Mariners improved to 10-7.

Maine Maritime won the first match 25-13, 25-5 and 25-6.

Gillian O'Neal led the Mariners attack with eight kills and Sydney Robertson tallied seven. Robertson finished with a .636 hitting percentage and O'Neal ended with .583.

O'Neal and Melissa Lail each tied for a  match-high six aces and Samantha Tumolo picked up five aces. O'Neal had eight digs, while Lail recorded seven. Betsy Trenckmann, Molly Marcotte and Tumolo each had four digs for MMA. 

The Mariners won the second match 25-14, 25-7 and 25-10.

Trenckman paced Maine Maritime's attack with eight kills and .500 hitting percentage. Tumolo tallied seven aces and 18 assists, while Lail finished with six aces and seven digs and O'Neal recorded seven digs.

The Mariners return to action Tuesday, 7 p.m., in a North Atlantic Conference match at Husson.
