Mariner Report: Week of September 10, 2018

Men's Cross Country

The Mariners finished second at their own Mariner Invitational on Saturday, led by sophomore Aylen Wolf (Surry, Maine) who finished fourth out of 61 runners. Maine Maritime returns to action next Saturday, September 15 at the UMass.-Dartmouth Invitational.

Last season at the UMass.-Dartmouth Invitational the Mariners placed 28th overall and were led by Zachary Kinsman.

Women's Cross Country

The Mariners finished fifth at the Mariner Invitational on Saturday, led by senior Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) who finished fourth overall. Maine Maritime returns to action next Saturday, September 15 at the UMass.-Dartmouth Invitational.

Last season at the UMass.-Dartmouth Invitational the team finished 37th of 40 teams and were led by Olivia Smith (Skowhegan, Maine).

Golf

The Mariners finished 5th out of nine teams at Tuesday's John Queenan Memorial Invitational, and finished 11th out of 12 teams at the two-day Bowdoin Invitational over the weekend. The Mariners return to action on Friday when they host UMaine-Presque Isle at the Castine Country Club before competing at the Maine State Golf Association Collegiate Championship on Saturday and Sunday.

Last season the Mariners defeated the Owls at the Presque Isle Country Club and finished sixth out of 10 teams at the MSGA Championship, led by Chance Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine). 

Football

The Mariners are coming off a bye week and will head to Massachusetts Maritime for the 46th Annual Admiral's Cup on Saturday.

The Buccaneers hold a 31-26 all-time advantage over the Mariners, including a 34-25 victory last season in Castine. Before that, the Mariners won two-consecutive meetings. 

Men's Soccer

The Mariners went 0-2-1 this week, falling to Southern Maine on Wednesday, 3-0, fighting to a 2-2 draw with Norwich University on Friday and falling to SUNY Maritime 2-1 on Saturday. Maine Maritime returns to action next Saturday, September 15 at UMaine-Farmington at 3:30 pm for their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener. 

The Beavers hold a 40-11-10 all-time advantage over the Mariners. Maine Maritime has won the last two matchups, including a 5-0 win last season in Farmington. 

Women's Soccer

The Mariners went 2-1 this week falling to Bates College on Tuesday night 2-0 but picking up wins over Mass. Maritime 6-1 on Saturday, led by a hat trick from senior Makayla Lewis (Purcellville, Va.)  and shutting out Nichols College 4-0 on Sunday. Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday, September 15 when they open up North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play at UMaine-Farmington at 1:00 pm.

The Beavers hold a 16-4-2 record over the Mariners. The Mariners have defeated the Beavers in the last two meetings, including a 1-0 victory last season in Farmington. 

Volleyball

The Mariners went 2-3 this week, falling to Colby College 3-1 on Wednesday night, Western Connecticut State 3-2 and Coast Guard 3-0 on Friday. Maine Maritime defeated Oneonta and Connecticut College 3-0 on Saturday. The Mariners head to Bowdoin College on Wednesday night for a non-conference matchup before heading to Southern Maine to take on the Huskies and UMass.-Dartmouth on Saturday. Maria Perez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) surprassed 1,000 career digs last week, becoming just the third Maine Maritime Volleyball player in program history to do so. 

The Polar Bears are 4-0 all-time against the Mariners. The two teams last met in 2012, in Castine where Bowdoin claimed a 3-0 win.

The Huskies hold a narrow 8-7 advantage over the Mariners. Maine Maritime defeated USM in their season opener at home on August 31, 3-0. 

This is the first-ever meeting between the Mariners and UMass.-Dartmouth.
