Men's Cross Country
Maine Maritime Academy men's cross country placed four runners in the top 10 to capture the NVU-Lyndon Invitational title last week on Saturday. Sophomore John Hassett (Castine, Maine) led the Mariners, finishing first overall out of 83 runners on the 6K course with a time of 21:47.6.
The Mariners return to action this week on Saturday at the UNE Invitational in Biddeford, Maine at 11:30am.
Maine Maritime last competed at the UNE Invitational in 2017, finishing eighth out of 12 teams. Cole Brundige (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) finished 14th overall out of 131 runners, to lead the Mariners with a time of 29:44.7 on the 8K course.
Women's Cross Country
Maine Maritime Academy women's cross country placed three runners in the top 20 to finish fourth on Saturday at the NVU-Lyndon Invitational.
Freshman Lily Cook (Southwest Harbor, Maine) led the Mariners finishing in 13th place out of 55 runners on the 3K course with a time of 15:58.2.
The Mariners return to action this week on Saturday at the UNE Invitational in Biddeford, Maine at 10:45 am.
Maine Maritime last competed at the UNE Invitational in 2017, finishing seventh out of 10 teams. The Mariners were led by Sierra James who finished 75th out of 130 runners with a time of 24:15.4 on the 5k course. Olivia Smith (Skowhegan, Maine) placed 85th, followed by Abigail L'Abbé (Topsham, Maine) in 86th.
Maine Maritime golf competed at the John Queenan Memorial Golf Tournament on Tuesday, finishing fifth. The Mariners were led by Senior Chance Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine) and Freshman Will Ducey (Savannah, Ga.) who tied for 17th, each shooting a score of 88 on the par 72 course.
The Mariners also competed at the two-day Bowdoin Invitational over the weekend, finishing 14th with a score of 696. Freshman Sam Sharpe (Brunswick, Maine) led the Mariners with a score of 164, shooting an 81 on day one and an 83 on day two to finish tied for 35th in the 75-man field.
The Mariners return to action next week on Tuesday, September 17th, at the Thomas Invitational at the Waterville Country Club.
The Mariners suffered a heartbreaking 24-21 loss at SUNY Maritime in their season-opener on Saturday.
Maine Maritime returns to action next Saturday, September 14 at Plymouth State at 1:00 pm. Saturday's game is the first meeting between the two teams since 2012. Plymouth State holds a 22-7 all-time record over the Mariners and defeated Maine Maritime 13-7 in the last meeting on September 15, 2012 in Castine, Maine.
Maine Maritime went 2-0 last week, picking up a thrilling 4-3 come-from-behind win over Mass. Maritime on Friday and a 2-0 win over SUNY Maritime on Sunday.
This week, the Mariners host Colby College on Wednesday, and Husson on Saturday for their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener and Soccer Friends/Family/Alumni Day. The Mariners are 0-11-1 all-time against the Mules, falling 2-1 in overtime last season in Waterville. The Mariners are 19-45-6 all-time against the Eagles, including a 2-0 win last season in Bangor.
The Mariners went 2-1 last week, falling to Bates College on Tuesday, 1-0 but bounced back with a pair of decisive shutouts against Mass. Maritime (5-0) and SUNY Maritime (8-0).
On Saturday Maine Maritime hosts Husson for their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener and Soccer Friends/Family/Alumni Day. The Mariners are 4-20-4 all-time against the Eagles. Last season the Mariners defeated the in-state rivals 1-0 in Bangor, claiming the first win over Husson since 2015. Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) scored the game-winner in the ninth minute to lift the Mariners over the Eagles.
The Mariners went 2-0 last week, picking up a pair of wins over WPI (3-1) and Southern Maine (3-0). Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday, at USMMA, for the 10th Annual Maritime Classic beginning with a match against Merchant Marine at 10:00 am.
Maine Maritime is 5-3 all-time over USMMA, and have won the last three meetings. The Mariners are 9-0 all-time against the Privateers, including a 3-0 win last season. The Mariners are 12-0 all-time against the Buccaneers, including a 3-0 win last season.
