CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy football fell to Springfield College, 56-7 on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at Ritchie Field.
The Pride scored 14 points in the first quarter and added 21 points to take a 35-0 lead into halftime and never looked back.
The Mariners fall to 0-9 on the season and 0-6 in the NEWMAC, while Springfield improves to 6-3 overall and 5-1 in the conference. Maine Maritime wraps up the season next Saturday, November 16 when they host Catholic at 12:00 pm for Senior Day.
Cooper Chiasson (Carthage, Maine) recorded a career-long 50-yard rush for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to account for the Mariners' only score of the game.
Chiasson carried the ball nine times for 67 yards and the touchdown, while freshman quarterback Andrew Haining (Palmyra, Maine) threw for 117 yards on nine completions and Mason Kaserman (Portland, Maine) had a team-high 45 receiving yards on one catch.
Defensively Aren Dickman (Scarborough, Maine) led the Mariners with 12 tackles, including nine solo stops. Spencer Baron (Mariaville, Maine) and Terrell Thomas (Auburn, Maine) added 11 tackles each, while Thomas tallied a sack for a loss of 10 yards. Trenton Bouchard (Winslow, Maine) pulled down an interception for the Mariners in the first quarter.
Springfield's Isaiah Cashwell-Doe rushed for a game-high 95 yards on seven carries, while teammate Nick Rajotte had 48 yards on six carries and two touchdowns, and quarterback Chad Shade tallied 60 yards on two completions and a touchdown.
The Pride amassed 621 yards of total offense, including 561 yards on the ground.
Terrell Jacobs-Baston and Chaz Ruffin led the Pride with four tackles, Jacobs-Baston added 1.5 sacks for eight yards and Ruffin rallied two sacks for a loss of 25 yards.
