CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy football fell to Catholic University, 28-13 on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at Ritchie Field.
Prior to the game the Mariners recognized their senior players: Joel Bennett (Chelsea, Maine), Kaleb Watkins (Rome, Maine), Zackery Brannon (Buxton, Maine), Spencer Baron (Mariaville, Maine), Cory O'Connell (Winslow, Maine), Holden Dudley (Winterport, Maine), Trenton Bouchard (Winslow, Maine), Josh Reed (Scarborough, Maine), Dillon Hummes (Auburn, Maine), A.J. Michaud (Veazie, Maine) and Mahlon Glidden (Scarborough, Maine).
The Mariners conclude the season at 0-10 overall and 0-7 in the NEWMAC, while Catholic wraps up their season at 2-8 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
Nikolas Moquin (Goffstown, N.H.) led the Mariners with 185 yards on 14 completions and two touchdowns, while Mason Kaserman (Portland, Maine) pulled down a team-high 130 yards on nine catches and two scores. On the ground, Cooper Chiasson (Carthrage, Maine) amassed 76 yards on 14 carries.
Defensively, Bennett led the Mariners with 10 tackles, including nine solo stops and added a forced fumble and an interception, while Terrell Thomas (Auburn, Maine) added eight tackles (seven solo) and a tackle for a loss.
Quarterback Brady Berger led the Cardinals with 245 yards on 22 completions and four touchdowns, Trey Carson pulled down five catches for 43 yards and two touchdowns and Pedro Garcia led Catholic with 87 yards on 13 carries.
Noah Miller led the Cardinals defensively, with seven tackles and an interception.
The Cardinals scored in each of the four quarters, and despite a pair of second half touchdowns from the Mariners, hung on for the victory.
