CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to New England College 77-52 on Friday evening in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) inside of Smith Gymnasium.
The Mariners and Pilgrims fought back-and-forth in the first half, exchanging the lead six times. Maine Maritime led by one (24-23) with 2:05 to go, but New England College went on a 7-3 run in the final two minutes to take a 30-27 lead into halftime.
Brendan Newcomb (Holden, Maine) hit a three to open up the second half and tied the game at 30-30 but the Pilgrims began to build a lead and outscored the Mariners 47-25 in the second half to claim the 77-52 victory.
Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) led the Mariners with 14 points, five rebounds, and two steals, while Newcomb ended the night with 12 points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Izaiah Winston-Brooks led the Pilgrims with 15 points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal, while teammate Ricky Leonard contributed 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal and Alonzo Cooper chipped in with 10 points, four rebounds, three steals and an assist.
The Pilgrims shot 46.3 percent from the floor while the Mariners shot 38 percent from the floor. New England College held a 39-31 edge in rebounds.
