JOHNSON, Vt. – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball cruised to a 78-57 victory over NVU-Johnson on Friday night in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener for both teams, inside of Carter Gymnasium.
How it Happened: The Mariners jumped out to an 8-0 lead following back-to-back three pointers from Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) and a basket from Adam Richardson (Bradley, Maine). Maine Maritime never looked back, taking a 38-24 lead into halftime. The Mariners took their biggest lead of the night (68-39) with just under six minutes to go in the game, on their way to the victory.
Inside the Numbers: Riley Jorgenson (Vienna, Va.) led the Mariners with a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds, while also contributing three assists.
Richardson recorded a team-high 22 points, to go along with nine rebounds, three blocks and two assists. DePatsy added 16 points, seven rebounds, and two assists and DeMerrill Levy (Houston, Texas) rounded out the Mariners in double-figures with 12 points, four assists, and three rebounds.
Robert Dubose led the Badgers with 23 points, four rebounds, two steals and a block and Tyrese Smith contributed 14 points, two rebounds and a steal.
The Mariners shot 48.1 percent from the floor and 47.8 percent from three-point land, while the Badgers shot 36.2 percent from the floor and 26.9 percent from beyond the arc. Maine Maritime held a 46-30 advantage in rebounds.
Up Next: The Mariners improve to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the NAC, while the Badgers drop to 0-6 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. Maine Maritime returns to action tomorrow, December 1, at NVU-Lyndon at 1:00 pm.
