Maine Maritime Academy's Last Game: Adam Richardson (Bradley, Maine) scored a game-high 22 points to lead Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball to a 68-63 victory over Thomas College in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Smith Gymnasium, on Saturday afternoon.
After a back-and-forth start to the first half, the Terriers used a 10-point run to take a 22-16 lead with 8:13 to play. The Mariners fought back to take a 31-27 lead into halftime.
The Terriers came out strong in the second half, to take their biggest lead of the game (52-43) with 9:58 to play. Richardson hit a layup to spark a six-point run for the Mariners, cutting the deficit to 52-49 at 8:09. Kimani Anderson (Houston, Texas) made a layup and Riley Jorgenson (Vienna, Va.) hit back-to-back threes to give the Mariners a 57-54 lead with 6:09 to play.
Thomas tied the game at 58-58 but Richardson scored six-unanswered points for the Mariners to make it 64-58 at 1:07. Zach MacKinnon hit a three to bring the game within three points, but the Mariners were strong at the line in the final 21 seconds to close out the victory.
Richardson led all players with 22 points, six rebounds, six assists and a block.
Jorgenson added 13 points, six rebounds, two steals and an assist and both Anderson and Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) added 11 points. Anderson added four rebounds and two steals while DePatsy contributed a game-high seven assists, five rebounds and three steals.
Justin Butler led the Terriers with 16 points, three rebounds, two steals and an assist off the bench and Lovegeurson Fleurine chipped in with 14 points, nine rebounds, and an assist.
The Mariners shot 43.1 percent from the floor, while the Terriers shot 38.5 percent. The Terriers held a 44-31 advantage in rebounds.
Bowdoin College's Last Game: The Bowdoin College men's basketball fell to Amherst, 86-62 on Saturday afternoon in NESCAC action.
The Polar Bears stayed within striking distance in the first half, trailing 26-20 midway through the frame. Amherst took control with a 13-4 surge, pushing their lead to double digits late in the period. The hosts carried a 46-32 lead into halftime thanks to ten points from Joseph Schneider. Bowdoin couldn't climb back into the contest, and hit only 1-8 from three-point range in the second half
Amherst finished at 53% shooting while holding Bowdoin to just 38% for the game. David Reynolds led Bowdoin with 18 points while Zavier Rucker added 15 and three steals. Jack Simonds had 10 points for the Polar Bears as well. Fru Che and Eric Sellew paced Amherst with 15 points each.
The Mariners: After 17 games the Mariners average 73.8 points, 34.4 rebounds, and 18.4 assists per game, while averaging 48.3 percent from the floor, 39.1 percent from the three-point line and 71.3 percent from the line.
