BANGOR, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to Husson University 79-69 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Friday night, inside of Newman Gymnasium.
How it Happened: The two teams battled back and forth early, but the Mariners built a 21-14 lead at 11:06. The Eagles responded with 13-unanswered points to take a 27-21 lead with 7:07 remaining in the first half and held the Mariners scoreless in the final five minutes of the half to take a 46-28 lead into halftime.
Maine Maritime began to chip away at the Eagles' lead in the second half, closing the gap to 52-46 with 13:13 to play. The Mariners closed the gap to seven points on numerous occasions, and outscored the Eagles 41-33 in the second half, but Husson held on for the victory.
By the Numbers: Adam Richardson (Bradley, Maine) scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Mariners, while also contributing six rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) added 16 points, three assists, two steals and two rebounds, and Riley Jorgenson (Vienna, Va.) tallied a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Jorgenson also added five assists and a steal.
Cole Thomas led the Eagles with 14 points, four rebounds, one assist, one steal and a block. Justin Thompson added 13 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals and Corey Kaiser contributed 12 points, two rebounds, two steals and an assist.
The Mariners shot 47.5 percent from the floor and 36.4 percent from three-point land, while the Eagles shot 52.6 percent from the floor and 35.3 percent from beyond the arc. The Mariners held a 33-32 edge in rebounds.
Up Next: The Mariners fall to 6-6 on the season and 3-2 in the conference, while the Eagles improve to 9-5 overall and 5-0 in the NAC. Maine Maritime returns to action on Tuesday, January 15 at Colby for a non-conference matchup at 7:30 pm.
