Last Meeting: Adam Richardson (Bradley, Maine) tallied a season high-25 points to lead Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball to a 68-66 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over UMaine-Presque Isle on January 19, inside of Smith Gymnasium.
The two teams battled closely in the first half, until Riley MacLeod (Bucksport, Maine) made a pair from the line and hit a jumper to give the Mariners a 36-35 lead and Richardson made two from the line to send the Mariners into halftime with a 38-35 advantage.
The second half was similar to the first, with the teams exchanging the lead numerous times. Richardson hit a layup with two minutes remaining in the game to give the Mariners a 61-58 advantage and Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) pulled down a crucial defensive rebound and splashed a three on the other side of the court to put the Mariners up, 64-58. UMPI closed the lead to three, but DePatsy and Kimani Anderson (Houston, Texas) hit their free throws in the final seconds to keep the Mariners on top and a last-second three from Shyquinn Dix was not enough for the Owls.
Richardson led the Mariners with a game-high 25 points, shooting 10-of-12 from the floor, five rebounds and five assists.
DePatsy contributed 20 points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal and Anderson added 12 points, six rebounds and an assist.
Griffin Guerrette led the Owls with 15 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal and Luke Peterson added 13 points and an assist. Both Shyquinn Dix and Te'Von Hines tallied 12 points, Hines added eight rebounds, two assists and a steal and Dix contributed four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
The Mariners shot 50.0 percent from the floor and 81.3 percent from the line, while the Owls shot 38.6 percent from the floor and 28.6 percent from the line. Maine Maritime held a 35-31 advantage in rebounds.
Maine Maritime Academy's Last Game: Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball sailed to an 86-67 victory over Northern Vermont University-Johnson on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Smith Gymnasium.
The Mariners scored first and never gave up the lead, taking their biggest lead of the afternoon (58-27), with 13:02 remaining. The Badgers battled back with a 21-4 run to close the gap to 62-48 late in the contest, but the Mariners hit back-to-back threes with three minutes to play and cruised to the 86-67 victory.
Adam Richardson led the Mariners with a game-high 27 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double, while also contributing seven assists and a block.
Nicholas DePatsy tallied a double-double with 22 points and a game-high 12 assists and also contributed four rebounds, a steal and a block.
Donell Shaw led the Badgers with 21 points, seven rebounds, three steals and an assist and Robert Dubose added 17 points, five rebounds, five steals and an assist.
The Mariners shot 60.4 from the floor, a season-best against a conference opponents, while the Badgers shot 37.9 percent from the floor. Maine Maritime held a 37-28 advantage on the boards.
University of Maine at Presque Isle's Last Game: UMaine-Presque Isle men's basketball fell to Berkeley College 86-55, on Sunday afternoon non-conference action at Wieden Hall.
The Knight's jumped out to a quick 9-0. Berkeley's lead grew to 20-7 before Griffin Guerrette connected on a long 3-pointer. At the 7:05 mark of the opening half, Luke Petersen drained a three on the assist from Guerrette trimming the Knight's lead to 28-19. A Shyquinn Dix 3-pointer brought the Owls to 31-24 with five minutes remaining. Berkeley entered halftime with a 44-30 lead and never looked back.
For UMPI, Griffin Guerrette led the way offensively with 14 points and five assists. Luke Petersen added eight points and Parker Onorato had six. Eleven players hit the scoring column for the Owls.
Berkeley College was paced by Nicholas Cora with 20 points and five rebounds, while Ricardo Ayuso scored 11 points.
The Mariners: After 20 games the Mariners average 74.3 points, 33.7 rebounds, and 18.9 assists per game, while averaging 48.6 percent from the floor, 39.8 percent from the three-point line and 73.1 percent from the line.
