CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime Academy's Adam Richardson (Bradley, Maine) has been nominated for the 2019 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Man of the Year Award.
Richardson, Maine Maritime's 2018-2019 Male Athlete of the Year, was a four-year member of the men's basketball team and served as a team captain during his senior season.
In May, Richardson graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Power Engineering Technology. Richardson ended the season ranking 10th among all NCAA Division III players in field goal percentage (64.2), after leading the Mariners and the NAC in points per game (18.6), total points (465), assists (71) and assists per game (4.6).
In his senior season, the forward hit 66 percent from the line in conference games (71.1 percent overall), averaged 7.5 baskets for every 11.6 attempts and stayed on the court for over 36 minutes per game, playing wire to wire in four NAC matchups. The three-time NAC Player of the Week, grabbed 6.0 rebounds per game, including 5.2 defensive rebounds per game. Richardson tallied three double-doubles this season, including two against conference opponents.
Richardson was named the 2018-2019 NAC Men's Basketball Player of the Year and Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year while earning NAC First Team, Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association (MMBCWA) Second Team, D3hoops.com All-Northeast Region Third Team and ECAC First Team honors.
Off the court, Richardson landed on the Dean's List six times and volunteered his time with numerous local organizations, including Special Olympics and the Bangor Food Shelter.
Six male student athletes were nominated for the prestigious award which encompasses all facets of the NCAA Division III student athlete experience. Both the NAC Man of the Year and NAC Woman of the Year awards are modeled after the NCAA's Woman of the Year program which honors graduating student athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletic excellence, service, and leadership.
The NAC Man and Woman of the Year award winners will be announced July 17 and 18, respectively, and will be honored on their campuses during the 2019-20 academic year.
