MACHIAS, Maine – Senior Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) scored a game-high 24 points, surpassing 1,000 career points, and led Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball to an 81-58 victory against UMaine-Machias on Wednesday night in non-conference action inside of Reynolds Gymnasium.
DePatsy becomes just the 13th player in Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball history to reach the milestone.
How it Happened: The Mariners jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back, taking a 43-33 advantage into halftime and outscored the Clippers 38-25 in the second half en route to the victory.
Inside the Numbers: DePatsy led the Mariners with 24 points, seven rebounds, three assists and a steal. DeMerrill Levy (Houston, Texas) contributed 20 points, three rebounds and two steals, while Malachi Reincke (Houston, Texas) tallied 13 points five rebounds a steal and a block and Riley Jorgenson (Vienna, Va.) added 11 points a team-high nine rebounds, five steals and three assists.
Jaylen Moreno led Machias with 14 points and a steal, while teammate Marcus Massey chipped in with 11 points, five rebounds, two steals and a block.
The Mariners shot 51.8 percent from the floor and 27.8 percent from beyond the arc, while the Clippers shot 32.9 percent overall and 29.2 percent from three-point land.
Up Next: With the win the Mariners improve to 2-0 overall, starting their season with a pair of wins for the first time since 2010-2011, while Machias falls to 2-5 with the loss. Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday when they travel to take on Bowdoin at 3:00 pm.
