BRUNSWICK, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to Bowdoin College 67-44 on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Morrell Gymnasium.
How it Happened: The Polar Bears jumped out to an 11-0 lead at 13:45. The Mariners closed the lead to 15-9 with 11:29 to play, but Bowdoin took a 39-22 lead into halftime and outscored the Mariners 28-22 in the second half to claim the victory.
Inside the Numbers: Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) led the Mariners with 12 points, including three three-pointers to tie Brendan Newcomb for three-pointers in a career with 253. DePatsy also contributed two rebounds and a steal, while DeMerrill Levy (Houston, Texas) added nine points, eight rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Stephen Ferraro led Bowdoin with 14 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and a steal, Sam Grad recorded 12 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks, two assists and a steal and Xander Werkman chipped in with 11 rebounds, 10 points and a steal.
The Mariners shot 28.0 percent from the floor and 26.3 percent from three-point land, while the Bowdoin shot 40.3 percent overall and 31.6 percent from beyond the arc. The Polar Bears held a 55-29 advantage in rebounds.
Up Next: The Mariners fall to 2-1 overall, while the Polar Bears improve to 2-2. Maine Maritime returns to action tomorrow, Sunday, November 24 when they take on the University of Maine at Orono in an exhibition game at 3:00 pm at the Portland Expo.
