Second-Half Run Sends Nor'easters Past Mariners

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to the University of New England 95-79 on Monday evening in non-conference action at the Harold Alfond Forum.

How it Happened: After a back-and-forth first half, the Mariners took a narrow 44-41 lead into halftime, and built a 52-45 lead early in the second half. The Nor'easters began to pull away late in the second half, using a 12-1 run to take a 88-75 lead with 3:26 to play and never looked back.

Inside the Numbers: DeMerrill Levy (Houston, Texas) tallied a game-high 23 points to lead the Mariners, while adding six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) added 20 points, including four three-pointers to surpass Brendan Newcomb as the program's all-time leader in career three-pointers with 257. DePatsy also contributed four assists, a rebound and a steal.

Alex Kravchuk and Siddiq Canty led the Nor'easters with 17 points each, Kravchuk contributed five rebounds, two steals and an assist while Canty added six rebounds, four steals and a block. Drake Gavin added 14 points, six rebounds, an assist and a steal, Jackson McCoy tallied 12 points and eight rebounds, while Avery DeBrito chipped in with 11 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and three steals and Ray Evans rounded out the players in double-figures with 10 points and an assist.

The Mariners shot 46.0 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from three-point land, while the Nor'easters shot 47.9 percent on the night and 28.1 percent from beyond the arc. UNE held a 49-33 advantage in rebounds.

Up Next: The Mariners fall to 2-2 overall with the loss, while the Nor'easters improve to 5-3 on the season. Maine Maritime returns to action on Wednesday night, when they hit the road to take on Division I University of New Hampshire at 7:00 pm for an exhibition contest.
