Mariners Sixth at MEIGA Championships; Chance Whittemore 12th

AUBURN, Maine – Chance Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine) shot and 83 and a career-low 73 for a two-round total of 156, earning 12th place in the field of 50 golfers competing at the Maine State Golf Association Collegiate Championships. Chance Whittemore paced Maine Maritime to a sixth place finish among the 10 Maine colleges competing.

The Mariners shaved 26 strokes off their day one score of 335, shooting 309 in the second round to move up four spots to sixth overall.

Connor Mersch (Holderness, N.H.) tied for 17th with a two-round total of 159 and Chase Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine) tied for 20th place improving 12 shots on his day one total of 86 to move up 22 spots after the second day. Chase Whittemore's 74 on day two, tied his previous career-low round. 

Joey Moir (Bangor, Maine) shot 87 and 83 to finish tied for 40th and Erich Klopfer (Palm Harbor, Fla.) rounded out the Mariner-five with an 89 and 82 to finish tied for 42nd.

Husson University claimed the team victory shooting 289 on day one and 302 on day two for a team score of 591. Bates College finished second with a two-round total of 630, followed closely by Colby College (631) in third, Bowdoin College (635) in fourth and the University of Southern Maine (638) in fifth.

Husson's Gavin Dugas claimed medalist honors, shooting a two-round total of 142.

The Mariners return to action next weekend at the two-day Husson Invitational at the Bangor Municipal Golf Course.
