BANGOR, Maine – Erich Klopfer (Palm Harbor, Fla.) led the Maine Maritime Academy golf team during the two-day Husson Invitational at the Bangor Municipal Golf Course with a 12th place finish.
The Mariners placed fifth out of seven teams with a two-day score of 627.
Klopfer shot a 76 on day one and a 73 on day two for a score of 149 (+7). Joey Moir (Bangor, Maine) carded a 74 on day one and a 79 on day two to finish 16th, while Connor Mersch (Holderness, N.H.) placed 27th with a two-day total of 162 and Chase Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine) and Chance Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine) shot identical scores of 82 and 81 to finish tied for 28th.
Husson's Gavin Dugas claimed medalist honors with a two-day total of 135 (-7), leading the Eagles to the team title with a score of 568. Endicott College placed second overall, with a score of 586, after leading at the conclusion of day one and Bates College rounded out the top three teams with a 607.
The Mariners return to action on Tuesday at the University of New England Invitational at the Cape Arundel Golf Club, beginning at 10:00 am.
