Mariners Place Fifth at John Queenan Invitational

CASCO, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy golf finished fifth with a team score of 331 at the season-opening John Queenan Memorial Tournament, hosted by Saint Joseph's College of Maine, on Tuesday at the Point Sebago Golf Resort. 

Junior Elliott Sibley (Lincoln, Maine) tied for third overall with a 77, to lead the Mariners, sophomore teammate Connor Mersch (Holderness, N.H.) carded an 80 to tie for ninth place. 

Junior Chance Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine) tallied an 86, senior Joey Moir (Bangor, Maine) shot an 88 and freshman Tyler McKenney (Castine, Maine) rounded out the Mariner-five with a 91.

Southern Maine claimed the team victory among the nine teams, with a score of 315, followed by the hosting Monks in second place with a 318. University of New England's Mike Rich claimed individual medalist honors shooting a 74 on the par 72 course.

The yearly tournament is named in memory of John Queenan, a 2003 graduate of Bow High School who died tragically in an automobile accident just prior to the beginning of his freshman year as a student-athlete at Saint Joseph's.
