2018 NAC Men's Golf Championship Preview

CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime Academy golf prepares for the 2018 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship on Saturday and Sunday, October 13 and 14, hosted by Northern Vermont University – Johnson at the Country Club of Vermont.

The 36-hole event will begin Saturday at 10:30 a.m., and will conclude Sunday after all rounds have been completed. Tee times for Sunday's final round will begin at 9:30 a.m. 

Last season the Mariners finished fourth (327-331-658) at the NAC Championship, led by Joey Moir (Bangor, Maine) who tied for 11th overall (79-82-161) to earn NAC Second Team honors. Chance Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine) carded an 81 on day one and an 82 on day two to finish tied for 15th place overall, with a score of 163. Connor Mersch (Holderness, N.H.) carded an 84 on both days to tie for 21st place with a score of 168.

Moir will lead the 2018 Maine Maritime lineup, followed by Whittemore and Mersch. Junior Elliott Sibley (Lincoln, Maine) and freshman Tyler McKenney (Castine, Maine) will represent the Mariners at the Conference Championship for the first time.

The Mariners have been picked to place fourth in the NAC Golf Pre-Championship Poll. Voting for the Pre-Championship Poll was conducted among the league's head men's golf coaches.

  • Competing Institutions – SUNY Canton, Castleton, SUNY Delhi, UMaine-Farmington, Husson, NVU-Johnson, Maine Maritime, MCLA, UMaine-Presque Isle, Salem State, Thomas
  • Format – The championship will be a 36-hole format with five golfers from each institution competing. The scores of the lowest four individuals on each team, total strokes over the two days, will count toward the team total. The team with the lowest total will be declared the champion.
