Whittemore Leads Mariners at Wildcat Spring Invitational

CRANSTON, R.I. -- Chance Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine) finished tied for 40th place overall to lead Maine Maritime Academy golf at the two-day Wildcat Spring Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the Cranston Country Club.

Whittemore carded a 158 (81, 77) to lead the Mariners, who placed 20th out of 20 teams. Connor Mersch (Holderness, N.H.) took 85th place with a 172, Tyler McKenney (Castine, Maine) and Elliott Sibley (Lincoln, Maine) tied for 92nd place combined scores of 176 and Liam Naturale (Dingmans Ferry, Pa.) rounded out the Mariner five in 101st place with a 194. 

Amherst took the top spot with a combined total of 596 (+28), led by individual medalist Cole Vissicchio who carded a 143 (+1) to claim first place. Providence College claimed second place with a 600 (+32) and Johnson & Wales took third with a 605 (+37). 

The Mariners wrap up spring competition and will return to action in the fall.
