Whittemore and Ducey Lead Mariners at John Queenan Memorial

CASCO, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy finished fifth with a team score of 355 at the 2019 John Queenan Memorial Tournament, hosted by St. Joseph's College of Maine, on Tuesday at Point Sebago Golf Resort.

Senior Chance Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine) and Freshman Will Ducey (Savannah, Ga.) finished tied for 17th, each shooting a score of 88 on the par 72 course. 

Junior Carter Ward (Lincoln, Maine) tallied an 89, junior Connor Mersch (Holderness, N.H.) and freshman Sam Sharpe (Brunswick, Maine) rounded out the Mariners five competing, each shooting a 90.

Southern Maine claimed the team victory with a team score of 310, followed by the hosting Monks in second place with a score of 316. Southern Maine's Brendan Croteau was the claimed the individual medalist honors shooting a 74 (+2).

The Mariners return to action this weekend on Saturday and Sunday at the two-day Bowdoin Invitational held at Brunswick Golf Club in Brunswick, Maine.

The yearly tournament is named in memory of John Queenan, a 2003 graduate of Bow High School who died tragically in an automobile accident just prior to the beginning of his freshman year as a student-athlete at Saint Joseph's.
