BRUNSWICK, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy golf finished 14th out of 15 teams, with a score of 696, at the two-day Bowdoin Invitational, hosted by Bowdoin College at the Brunswick Golf Club.
Freshman Sam Sharpe (Brunswick, Maine) led the Mariners with a score of 164, shooting an 81 on day one and an 83 on day two to finish tied for 35th in the 75-man field. Junior Connor Mersch (Holderness, N.H.) shot 172, shaving six strokes off his day one total to finish tied for 57th.
Senior Zachary Foss (Saco, Maine) rounded out the top-five finishers for the Mariners, finishing in a tie for 71st with a 186, shaving four strokes off his day-one total.
Nichols College took home the top spot with a score of 623, while Husson University came in second with a score of 631 and the University of Southern Maine rounded out the top three with a team score of 632.
Husson's Eric Dugas claimed individual medalist honors, carding a 78 (+6) on day one and a 72 (E) on day two to finish with a two-day score of 150, two strokes ahead of Bates' Andrew Garcia-Bou.
The Mariners return to action next Tuesday, September 17th, at the Thomas Invitational in Waterville, Maine at the Waterville Country Club.
