CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's lacrosse fell to the University of Southern Maine 18-1 on Saturday evening in non-conference action at Ritchie Field.
The Mariners fall to 0-2 on the season, while Southern Maine improves to 1-0. Maine Maritime returns to action on Friday, March 9 when they travel to SUNY Maritime for the Fifth Annual Maritime Classic.
Sawyer Watson (Topsham, Maine) put the Mariners ahead at 12:44 in the first quarter, but the Huskies scored three-unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead into the second quarter and never looked back, cruising to the 18-1 victory.
Watson led the Mariners with a goal, while Alex Grant-Roy (Biddeford, Maine) added an assist, and Michael Martel (Biddeford, Maine), William Evon (Barrington, Ill.) and Justin Kretzmer (Glastonbury, Conn.) tallied two caused turnovers each. Evon also led the Mariners with eight ground balls, and Mitchell Farley (Biddeford, Maine) went 10-for-24 on the face off.
Nate DelGiudice led the Huskies with five goals and two assists, Seth Wing added three goals and an assist and Derek Davidson, Paul Leonardo and Ethan Ouellette chipped in with two goals each. Noah Regalado led all players with six caused turnovers.
Maine Maritime's Isaiah Weston (Mt. Vernon, Maine) tallied 21 saves in the setback, while Zach Bessette tallied four stops in the victory for the Huskies.
