Aronson Resigns Post; Dillon Named Interim Head Coach

CASTINE, Maine – Bob Aronson has resigned from his position as the Head Men's Lacrosse Coach and Facilities and Events Coordinator at Maine Maritime Academy. Aronson stood at the helm of the lacrosse program for the 2016 and 2017 seasons, compiling an 8-21 mark.

Second-year assistant coach, James Dillon, has been appointed Interim Head Coach for the 2018 season. A 2013 Graduate of Salve Regina University, Dillon earned a Bachelor of Science in Financial Management with minors in Accounting and Business Administration.

"I'd like to thank Steve Peed, the Athletic Department, and the Administration for the opportunity to work with such a fine group of young men, especially team captains, Nathan Granholm and Justin Kretzmer," said Aronson. "I believe the team has made wonderful progress and will continue doing so under the capable leadership of Coach Dillon."

At Salve Regina, Dillon was a four-year member of the men's lacrosse team where he was named to the Commonwealth Coast Conference All-Academic Team. He also helped coach at various Aquidneck Island Youth Clinics as part of the Seahawks Lacrosse Team. Before coming to Maine Maritime Academy, Dillon served as an Assistant Coach for the varsity lacrosse and basketball teams at The Pine School in Hobe Sound, Florida.

"The opportunity to learn from Coach Aronson played a big role in my decision to join his staff a year and half ago," said Dillon. "Witnessing such an accomplished coach teach the fundamentals and advanced nuances of the game was an experience any assistant hopes for."

"Although I wish our partnership here was not over yet, the leaders we have in our locker room and the buy-in from an exuberant freshman group still have us on course for a NAC playoff run. We wish Coach Aronson all the best."

"I'd like to thank Coach Aronson for his service to the Academy and Mariners athletics," said Director of Athletics, Steve Peed. "I wish him well in all of his future endeavors."

"I have all of the confidence in the world in James' ability to guide our team through this change and the season ahead."

Maine Maritime Academy opens the 2018 season at Gordon College on February 24.
