CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy Director of Athletics Steve Peed named James Dillon as the Head Men's Lacrosse Coach on Tuesday.
"I would like to thank Steve Peed and the committee for trusting me to lead this team going forward," said Dillon. "I am both honored and humbled to serve as the program's head coach."
Dillon was appointed Interim Head Coach for the 2018 season and led the Mariners to a 4-8 record, including a 4-3 record in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) and the team's first home playoff game since 2015.
"I was extremely proud of how our leaders and younger guys played this past spring," Dillon added. "Between the talented youth and the support from the department and alumni, to say I'm excited about the future is an understatement."
"We put James in a difficult situation and he did a fantastic job connecting with the players, leading a young team that included 11 freshman and finishing next year's recruiting class," said Peed. "James is a great fit for our department, as well as the right person to stabilize this program and get the team back to the top half of the NAC standings."
"I am extremely thankful for James' thoughtful leadership and I am excited to see where he leads this program moving forward," added Peed.
A 2013 Graduate of Salve Regina University, Dillon earned a Bachelor of Science in Financial Management with minors in Accounting and Business Administration.
At Salve Regina, Dillon was a four-year member of the men's lacrosse team where he was named to the Commonwealth Coast Conference All-Academic Team. He also helped coach at various Aquidneck Island Youth Clinics as part of the Seahawks Lacrosse Team. Before coming to Maine Maritime Academy, Dillon served as an Assistant Coach for the varsity lacrosse and basketball teams at The Pine School in Hobe Sound, Florida.
