Last Meeting: The last two scheduled meetings were canceled due to weather. The two teams last faced off in 2016, with the Buccaneers taking a 16-6 victory over the Mariners in Buzzards Bay.
Massachusetts Maritime Academy's Last Game: Massachusetts Maritime fell to Eastern Connecticut 14-11 on Thursday night inside of Clean Harbors Stadium.
For the Buccaneers, freshman attacker Spencer Jones less all scorers with five goals in the game. Jones scored his five goals on 10 shots, eight of which were on target. Junior Frank Ragge and sophomore Alexandre Lucas each had two goals in the game for the home team. Scoring a goal apiece were senior captain Ted Powers and junior Trey Guerrini. Powers added two assists to his score line as well. In goal, senior captain Michael Dolan faced 24 shots, saving 10 and allowing the 14 goals.
For Eastern, Brett Chin and Matthew Rougeot each scored four goals. Chin assisted on two other Warrior scores. Sophomore attacker Jake Liebowitz was a facilitator offensively for ECSU, racking up four assists and scoring a goal of his own. In net, Jack Farrell saw 25 Buccaneers shots, allowed the 11 goals and made 14 saves, improving to 2-0 in goal on the year.
NAC Preseason Poll: The Mariners were selected to finish third, out of seven teams, in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll.
James Dillon returns for his second season at the helm for the Mariners. After losing only three players to graduation, Maine Maritime Academy (4-8, 4-3 NAC) welcomes back a talented and seasoned group of returners, including junior Nathan Granholm (Brunswick, Maine) who was named to the 2018 NAC First-Team. The squad also welcomes a talented group of freshmen, and are looking forward to making another NAC Tournament appearance.
NEWMAC Preseason Poll: The Buccaneers were selected to finish seventh, of out eight teams, in the NEWMAC Preseason Poll.
Last season, the Buccaneer men's lacrosse team finished 6-8 under first year head coach, Rick Bagby. The team's NEWMAC record was only 1-6, good for a seventh place conference finish ahead of Emerson. Coach Bagby's second year at the helm will be the program's final season in the NEWMAC before transitioning to the LEC in 2020.
Team Captains: Sophomore long-stick midfielder William Evon (Barrington, Ill.), junior defender Nathan Granholm and sophomore attacker Sawyer Watson (Topsham, Maine) have been named team captains for the Mariners.
Seniors, attacker Ted Powers, goalkeeper Michael Dolan, defender Eli DiTullio, and midfielder Kenneth Parnell are the Buccaneers' captains.
