ONEONTA, N.Y. – Maine Maritime Academy men's lacrosse fell to SUNY Delhi, 12-5 on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Red Dragon Field on the campus of SUNY Oneonta.
How it Happened: Delhi's Malik Talbert scored the first two goals of the game before Zeke Tocci (Naples, Maine) put the Mariners on the board on a man-up goal with 1:56 to play in the first quarter.
The Broncos added four goals in the second quarter to take a 6-1 lead into halftime.
The Mariners added two goals in each of the last two quarters, but the Broncos tallied six goal in the second half to claim the 12-5 victory.
Inside the Numbers: Tocci led the Mariners with three goals, one assist, two ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Nathan Granholm (Brunswick, Maine) and Jayden Wilson (Lewiston, Maine) tallied the other goals for the Mariners. William Evon (Barrington, Ill.) led Maine Maritime's defense with four caused turnovers and five ground balls and Alex Snowman (Sarasota, Fla.) tallied a game-high six ground balls, while going 11-of-21 from the faceoff.
In net, Matthew Emery (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) tallied 16 saves in the loss for the Mariners.
Talbert and John Rohan III led the Broncos with four goals each while King White chipped in with a pair of goals. Talbert also led Delhi with four caused turnovers and both Travis Biggs and Nick Dower led the team with five ground balls.
Travis Anderson earned the win in net for the Broncos with 10 saves.
The Broncos held a 32-28 edge in ground balls.
Up Next: With the loss the Mariners fall to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the NAC, while the Broncos improve to 4-2 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. Maine Maritime returns to action next Saturday, March 23 when they host SUNY Canton for their home opener at 12:00 pm on Ritchie Field.
