CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's lacrosse fell to NVU-Lyndon 13-7, on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Ritchie Field.
How it Happened: Jayden Wilson (Lewiston, Maine) put the Mariners on the board early in the first quarter, but the Hornets responded with four-unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead into the second quarter. Wilson tallied two goals to start the second quarter, but Lyndon answered with back-to-back goals to make it 6-3. Wilson grabbed his fourth goal of the game with 2:23 remaining in the half, and Sawyer Watson (Topsham, Maine) added a goal with three seconds to go to cut the Hornets' lead to 6-5, entering halftime.
Lyndon held the Mariners to just two goals in the second half, while adding on seven goals to claim the 13-7 win.
Inside the Numbers: Wilson led the Mariners with six goals, two ground balls and a caused turnover, Watson contributed one goal and one assist and William Evon (Barrington, Ill.) added an assist while leading the team with eight ground balls. Oscar Kwok (York, Maine) led the Mariners with three caused turnovers and Matthew Emery (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) tallied eight saves in the loss for Maine Maritime.
Shea Jones and Spencer Aubin led the Hornets with four goals and two assists each, Callen Singer and Taner Onor each added two goals and Luc Parrett led the team with three caused turnovers. Aaron Florence tallied nine saves to earn the win for Lyndon.
The Mariners edged the Hornets in ground balls, 32-31 and faceoffs won, 15-8.
Up Next: The Mariners fall to 2-7 on the season and 2-3 in the NAC, while the Hornets improve to 3-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference. Maine Maritime will return to action on Tuesday evening, when they host Husson University for a NAC matchup at 6:00 pm.
