THROGGS NECK, N.Y. -- Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer fell to SUNY Maritime 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Reinhart Field.
The Privateers got on the board early, when Chris O'Connor passed a ball ahead to teammate Parker Galt in the seventh minute, Galt found the back of the net to make it 1-0. SUNY Maritime held a narrow 6-5 shot advantage in the first half.
In the second half, the Mariners held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks, but the Privateers nearly doubled the Mariners seven shots with 13 and added an insurance goal in the 51st minute, on a header from Neil Dillon to take the 2-0 victory.
Maine Maritime's Andrew Coleman (Saco, Maine) stopped eight shots in net in the loss and Michael Rodriguez stopped all eight shots he faced in the victory for the Privateers.
The Mariners fall to 1-1 on the season, while SUNY Maritime improves to 4-0 overall. Maine Maritime returns to action tomorrow against Sarah Lawrence at 11:00 am at SUNY Maritime.
