Late-Game Surge Lifts Sarah Lawrence Over Maine Maritime

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – Sarah Lawrence College scored three goals in the second half to edge Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer, 4-3 Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at Reinhart Field.

The Mariners struck first in the 13th minute when Matthew Caron (Scarborough, Maine) sent a cross into the box and teammate Liam Welch (Temple, Maine) snuck the ball into net. Less than 10 minutes later Caron added a goal of his own, this time on a through ball from Dalton Moore (Hollis Center, Maine). 

Sarah Lawrence answered in the 30th minute when Camary Jonas picked up an unassisted strike to cut Maine Maritime's lead to 2-1.

Maine Maritime held a substantial 12-6 advantage in shots in the first half, and took a one-goal lead into halftime.

The Gryphons tied the game at 2-2 in the 64th minute on a goal from Finn Macmillan.

Dylan Labun (Belgrade, Maine) scored his first collegiate goal to put the Mariners ahead 3-2 but Sarah Lawrence scored twice in the final 10 minutes of the game to take the 4-3 victory.

Joshua Reeks (Bedford, N.H.) and Andrew Coleman (Saco, Maine) split time in net for the Mariners, Reeks tallied one save, while Coleman recorded four stops in the loss. Sarah Lawrence's Isar Wadhwa recorded eight saves in the victory.

The Mariners fall to 1-2 overall while Sarah Lawrence improves to 1-3. Maine Maritime returns to action next Saturday, September 16 when they host North Atlantic Conference rival, Colby-Sawyer College at 6:30 pm, as part of Homecoming 2017.
