CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer fell to Colby-Sawyer College, 4-1 on Saturday night in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener for both teams on Ritchie Field.
The Mariners struck early in the game in the 10th minute when Ike Doiron (Wilton, Maine) scored his second goal of the season.
Maine Maritime hung onto that 1-0 lead until the second half, when Eddie Garcia scored back-to-back goals for the Chargers in less than five minutes.
Denali Sexton added a penalty kick goal in the 72nd minute to make it 3-1 and Jake Sykes added another goal in the 76th minute to secure the victory for Colby-Sawyer.
Joshua Reeks (Bedford, N.H.) tallied two saves in the loss for the Mariners, and Sean Babinski and Shane Sacks combined to make four stops for the Chargers.
The Mariners fall to 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in the NAC, while the Chargers improve to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Maine Maritime returns to action on Tuesday night when they host Thomas College for a conference matchup at 4:00 pm.
